Producer/host Maria Vasquez Boyd welcomes Darin & Shannon White, Nettie Zan, and Ingrid Perez-Esquivel.

DARIN & SHANNON WHITE-We have known the artist/curator, Rex since 2009. We have done a lot of projects together. In 2009 we produced a show, the White Show at Signs of Life Gallery in Lawrence that was curated by Samuel H. Kho, from LA. We took a portion of this show to Hausmann Millworks in San Antonio in 2010. In 2011 we bused up over 50 artists, curators, media, viewers from San Antonio to Lawrence, KS for a large group exhibition and events at the Lawrence Arts Center and Spencer Museum. Also in 2011 we were in a group show in Brooklyn (Booking it to Brooklyn) together. In 2016 we went to NYC to the Hispanic Society Museum for a project. In 2017 we had a show created from this Hispanic Society Museum project at the All Things Project Gallery on Bleeker Street. I missed quite a few things… but this is a few of the projects.

In 2012 Shannon and I curated an outdoor exhibition/event for the Kemper Museum. I had a solo show in Brooklyn in 2012. Shannon has had a few solo shows at different galleries in KC, and we have had a number of group shows. In 2014 Shannon and I produced the sculpture Genography for Arts KC. We were part of art in the loop a couple of years. We have worked as a collective together under White Art Studios and produced shows under b.a.l.m. (beauty, art and life movement).

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” John 15:30.
San Antonio-based painter, Rex Hausmann, returns to the Sheen Center to celebrate fellow artists of faith – and longtime friends — who, in playing meaningful roles in his creative and spiritual journey, have been part of his “American story.”
A former Sheen Center artist-in-residence who had a career-changing solo exhibit at the center in 2019, Rex proposed curating this show as a way of providing these talented artists from across the country a similar opportunity to showcase their work in the heart of New York City. In doing so, Rex hopes to highlight the American stories of those featured — diverse in their backgrounds, styles and chosen medium — whose support and fellowship inspired him over the years.
“The places have changed, yet things that do not change are my family and friends.”
Taken together, the exhibit is both eclectic and unified on a deeply personal level. Contributing artists include:

We’ll discuss our feelings about writing, goals, struggles, history and hope and then share a 20 minute free writing time. Afterwards, folks are invited to read aloud what they wrote and we will discuss the piece in emotional, responsive, constructive, non-critical ways.
This event is designed to create a sacred space for your relationship with your writing, and to get practice at sharing our creations in a welcoming and vibrant space.
