The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art -It’s time to stay home. Time to do everything we can, as individuals, to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is closed for now, and we hope you will visit us online to draw inspiration and courage from our works of art. We regret that all events, classes, workshops and tours are canceled, at least through mid-June. This includes the museum’s Passport to India festival and the largest fundraiser for the museum, ShuttleCork. It also includes the Juneteenth festival. Check the museum’s online calendar for details.
During this temporary closure, the museum’s works of art are well protected and secured, and we will all look forward to seeing our “friends” again soon. The Nelson-Atkins will continue to be a place for inspiration, curiosity, and human expression, through this website and the museum’s social media.

MUSEUM RECOVERY FUND
These are unprecedented days in our world. At the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, our doors are closed to the public and to most museum staff as we fight the spread of the coronavirus. Yet our work continues onsite and virtually. We are maintaining our facilities, keeping the art you know and love safe and secure, and looking to the future to ensure the long-term vitality of the museum. Though none of us can be in our galleries during this temporary closure, we are working hard to bring our galleries to you. Visit Nelson-Atkins@Home to take virtual tours, learn from our exceptional staff, and get creative with art activities and coloring pages. Check back frequently for fresh content.
As our doors remain shut and markets fluctuate, we are confronting large declines in our three funding sources: earned revenue, donations, and endowment returns. We are doing everything we can to reduce our budget—eliminating programming, forgoing exhibitions, and reducing staff work schedules and salaries. Despite these sacrifices, we need critical support to remain viable and whole and to plan for a reopening as soon as the time is right.
COVID-19 has affected each of us in profound ways, and we all see great need around us. If your circumstances allow, please consider supporting your museum during this critical time.
SUPPORT THE NELSON-ATKINS

DJ Daniel the Cat- Online World Premiere-For over a decade it was believed that the ground-breaking 2009 self-titled album DJ Daniel the Cat had been lost after the disappearance of Daniel the Cat in 2010. Recently Anson the Ornery, the producer and singer of DJ Daniel the Cat, rediscovered the album’s masters. The interest in DJ Daniel the Cat has only grown over the years despite the fact that few have ever heard the legendary album outside Daniel’s inner group of friends. That is soon to change, for Anson has announced that on May 22nd 2020 he will be live streaming DJ Daniel the Cat via Facebook and Instagram Live at 7 pm CST in its entirety along with his own personal commentary about the making of the album.
The breakout success of Piano Cat inspired Daniel to become a DJ himself but, due to bigotry in the music industry towards cats, Daniel was worried that his music would not be taken seriously. Anson then became the voice of DJ Daniel the Cat in order for the public to accept Daniel’s music. The two labored on the album for months only using small electronic toy synthesizers to accommodate the size of Daniel’s paws. The result was a masterful collection of six electronic dance music tracks with lyrics chronicling Daniel’s crippling social anxiety. After the news of Daniel’s disappearance Anson was disheartened and DJ Daniel the Cat was lost in the confusion. Over the last decade the notoriety of DJ Daniel the Cat has grown due to the popularity of the internet and the demand for the lost album has never been greater.
Please join the world premiere of DJ Daniel the Cat on Facebook and Instagram live on May 22nd 2020 at 7 pm CST. There has never been an album better suited for the internet and our current times. This one-time event is in loving memory of Daniel the Cat.
