Every Woman • August 8, 2020 – Great Debate League – Phillips v Taylor – Black Women, Feminism, and Black Families

On today’s episode of Every Woman, we’re going to have a special treat for everyone.  By kind permission of the Great Debate League we get to listen to a debate between Jainabah Lumumba Phillips and Catina Taylor about the role that Feminism has played in the weakening of the Black Family Structure. Several pundits have made the assumption that feminist ideals coupled with racist social policies exiled Black men from their families leaving behind a fractured community. However, Black Feminist scholars and activists have pushed back against this assertion noting that calls for gender equality were only a threat to those who wanted to uphold the patriarchy and continue the oppression of Black Women.  Many of you will know Catina Taylor, not only for her being a guest on Every Woman, but also a board member of KKFI, and the current Board Secretary.  In addition to that, she is also an educator and activist.  Jainabah Lumumba Phillips is a revolutionary and activist and will be defending her premise that Black Women’s acceptance of feminism contributes to the destruction of the Black Family Structure.

That’s at 3pm Central Time, on 90.1 FM, streaming on kkfi.org or various apps on your phones! And be sure to keep up with Every Woman at our Facebook page which you can find right here!
