Freeze Frame: “John Wick: Chapter 4” (R), “Last Sentinel” (R)

The latest installment of the wildly popular John Wick action franchise, “John Wick: Chapter Four,” is an amazing stunt reel in search of a plot. Keanu Reeves is back as the uber talented hitman who is out for revenge against an Illuminati-type organization that’s put out a hit on him. The stunt work is utterly spectacular, and the action sequences are artfully shot and choreographed by stuntman extraordinaire Chad Stahelski. But the plot and dialogue are so absurd that viewers need to bring an extraordinary suspension of disbelief. “John Wick: Chapter Four” will undoubtedly slay at the box office, but that script may put a hit out on your brain.

Kate Bosworth stars in “Last Sentinel,” a dystopian sci-fi drama set on a remote oceanic outpost. In the near future most of the world has been flooded and the two small plots of land left over are at war with one another. Four fatigued and psychologically distressed soldiers on board a rusty platform stand guard over a nuclear device that may or may not protect their homeland. “Last Sentinel” is as bleak dreary as its setting.
