At 10:30 Mark talks with KC, based musician Sarah Magill about her new sonic adventure, Quiet Takes, an on-going collaborative project with a rotating cast of friends. Quiet Takes was most recently called MYRY. During these stay-at-home days of COVID-19 Sarah is creating solo works. In Kansas City, she is known for hosting house shows and co-founding Rubix, a performance art collective. The first EP, MYRY’s “AHEM.” was release in 2018. At 11:00 Mark talks with Enrique Chi of Making Movies an international band known for its Latinx activism formed in KC in 2009. Making Movies include elements of rock, cumbia, psychedelia, American roots, son cubano, and spoken word in their sound. The band was nominated for a 2019 Latin Grammy for their collaboration with Ruben Blades on “No Te Calles”, featured on their new album, ameri’kana. We will talk with Enrique about the band’s new single, “Everybody Wants To Rule The World,” and their music education non-profit, Art As Mentorship. Enrique is wrapping up a six-week online songwriting series, The Rebel Song Academy, featuring members of Los Lobos, Chicano Batman and Flor De Toloache. At 11:30 Folk Americana singer and songwriter Sam Wells joins us to talk about her first two singles, “Lesson Learned” (her debut) and “Sugar” (her latest) that is “full of energy and funk.” These two tracks are leading up to the release of Sam’s first EP, “Not Too Broken”, that is planned be released in August, 2020. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Sam Wells is now based in Lawrence, Kansas where she is brining her music to the greater Kansa City area, in many venues, and now in live stream shows.
