Kansas City Shanty Choir

Happy National Radio Day! Radio was once one of the most incredible technologies on Earth – used by militaries and governments alike for navigation and news distribution, and a continuing source of free entertainment and information. KKFI uses this platform to stimulate, educate and entertain our audience, to reflect the diversity of the local and world community, and to provide a channel for individuals and groups, issues, and music that have been overlooked, suppressed or under-represented by other media.

To celebrate National Radio Day, Foolkiller Folk is bringing you entertainment and information both!  Kathy (with a little help from Valerie) will be playing sea songs and talking with the Shantymen of the Kansas City Shanty Choir, who formed the choir to provide people with an opportunity to sing traditional sea shanties and meet new people over a pint. And who knows – we may be able to get them to sing the Wellerman live!

What are sea Shanties, you might ask? Tune in and find out.
