What day is better than the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. to begin such a conversation?  Afterall, the words and deeds of Martin Luther King, Jr. continue to inspire us. His call for justice and equality has changed the world, and this extends to a commitment to fight climate change. We celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. not only for his leadership in the civil rights movement, but also for his unwavering dedication to a just cause and we have one – climate justice.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.” In today’s world, this statement is the call for a just transition to a sustainable planet Earth. We are going to use this day to commit ourselves to taking action.

Richard Mabion will speak about the community-based concern for an independent Pathway Out of Poverty. MARC has chosen to pursue the Community Owned Waste Exchange, a beginning step to put the low-income portion of the population into a Pathway Out of Poverty program. Mark Hillenbrand will show us how to find volunteers as teachers needed to train those who could become paid instructors in the program.  Rich Gutowski will address the long range of employment possibilities.

This is about efforts to keep recyclables out of landfills by turning them into income-producing products.
