New Products Made From Recycled Plastics

On today’s show, Matt Riggs, Outreach Coordinator with Mid-America Regional Counsel (MARC) comes to the KKFI studio to discuss recycling plastics with our host, Teresa Wilke. MARC is a nonprofit association of city and county governments and the metropolitan planning organization for the bistate Kansas City region. MARC serves nine counties and 119 cities. MARC provides a forum for the region to work together to advance social, economic and environmental progress.

Matt Riggs has a vast knowledge of recycling. He has been our guest before about how and where recycling begins. Today, we will talk about where in the Kansas City area the recycled plastic material ends up. https://www.marc.org/Home

Also present in our studio for this discussion will be Randy Smith, President of MarCon Solutions, a Riverside MO company that creates new products from recycled plastics. This organization has been operating for approximately 37 years. www.marconsolutions.com

Our fascinating story on plastics recycling will include an interview with Rob Starr, who has been an owner and President of St. Joseph Plastics since 1990. His commitment to quality and honest business relationships has grown St. Joseph Plastics from a small one location operation to multiple locations and one of the largest plastic re-processors in the region. Rob’s central focus with the business in the 1990’s was the regrind division. Through his leadership the company experienced many years of growth. This growth, coupled with industry and customer needs changing, led St. Joseph Plastics towards pelletizing in 2008. Under Rob’s leadership, the pelletizing division soon expanded to its current state – compounding and incorporating PCR into product offerings. www.saintjosephplastics.com

We at EcoRadioKC are glad to encourage recycling! Better yet, we hope to encourage everyone to think about the trash each household generates as part of their carbon footprint. Let’s create a sustainable present for a sustainable future!
