EcoRadio KC is a magazine show, including live segments, prerecorded stories, and interviews. The weekly explores our interdependence with the rest of the world, showing the connections between the ways we choose to live and the health of the whole community of life.
On our show for May 8th, host Richard Mabion and Rich Gutowski will speak with guests, Alicia F Smith and Michelle Ramaker of F&S Building Innovations, Inc. which is in Roanoke, VA.
Alicia Smith is currently Vice President/ Chief Operations Officer of F&S Building Innovations – a Class A Contractor with large commercial and residential divisions specializing in custom renovations. Alicia directly manages the Residential division averaging over 600 projects annually and works at the executive management level overseeing all marketing, production and operations. She is the in-house design professional providing interior design, 3D renderings and construction drawings for design/build projects. Alicia serves as President of Build Smart Institute- managing operations of the construction trade school that provides introductory training, as well as professional development training for the construction industry. Alicia is currently the 2023 President of Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association and serves on the Executive Board for Home Builders Association of Virginia. Alicia and her husband own Smith Home Inspections where she manages the accounting and business operations.
Alicia spent almost 15 years as General Manager and CFO of an international light gauge steel manufacturer, overseeing all operations from design and engineering to production, sales, accounting and human resources. Prior to that Alicia attended Liberty University. Alicia previously served on the board of directors for the Better Business Bureau, Parkway Christian Academy, and Palestine Baptist Church and currently serves on the Valley Business Front Advisory Board and Vice-chair of HBAV Education Foundation. Alicia is highly involved with volunteer work at her church and daughter’s school. Alicia was awarded RRHBA’s 2022 Builder of the Year and regularly receives local design professional awards.
Michelle Ramaker is Alicia’s sister and she is employed as Residential Coordinator at F&S Building Innovations. She, Alicia, Rich and Richard are going to talk about the mission of Build Smart Institute™, which is to educate and train individuals to become career-ready and advance within construction industry occupations. With a combination of virtual learning, classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory skill practice, Build Smart Institute will train you, test you, and give you the tools to be successful.
