Jaws of Justice Radio
It is the intention of Jaws of Justice Radio to investigate how to achieve justice in America, this includes issues of economic injustice, political injustice and the criminal justice system. We want to put a human face on those caught in the grasp of injustice and those that are part of an unjust system. We strive to dispel the misconceptions created by the news and entertainment industry, politicians and our educational system.
Ricky Kidd, The Fight For Exoneration – Advocates Outside The Courtroom
The fight to win the freedom of Ricky Kidd, wrongly convicted of murder, came down to four days of evidentiary hearings in a Gallatin, MO courtroom last week. There was testimony from a witness who has recanted his original testimony, detectives in the original case, both the Prosecutor and the Public Defender in the case and reading of testimony given in previous hearings. At the end of the week everyone expected to hear the Judge either render a ruling or take the case under advisement and to rule when he was done weighing the evidence presented. Instead what happened was a request by the Midwest Innocence Project Defense Counsel for a continuance so they could gather one more essential piece of testimony to be heard at a later date. Exonerations are hard, take an inordinate amount of time and require every I to be dotted, T to be crossed and past mistake rectified to ensure that justice is finally rendered.
The Midwest Innocence Project and the UMKC Students MIP Chapter have worked very hard and developed their best answer to the original but wrongful conviction. Their work is essential to win freedom for an innocent man or woman. There is another defense team that gathers around the wrongly convicted as well, they are family, friends and others who find a particular case or defendant compelling and want to see justice restored.
Today host Jeff Humfeld gathers some of those Advocates who have been working for years to get Ricky’s case before the public and the media as well as provide moral and physical help for Ricky and the campaign. We hope to also have Ricky on the phone for at least a portion of the show.

The KC Area Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children and Other Survivors of Homicide will hold their monthly meeting Friday May 3rd, beginning at 7:30 PM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 2552 Gillham Road, KCMO. POMC meets to provide assistance through ongoing emotional support, education, prevention, advocacy and awareness to all survivors of homicide victims. For more information call 816-850-4200.
