THE CONNECTIONS THAT EXIST BETWEEN HUMAN AND NATURAL SYSTEMS

On our show for September 18th, host Richard Mabion speaks with Jeffrey Severin, presently Sr. Program Manager for the Heartland Environmental Justice Center, which is part of the Environmental Finance Center at Wichita State University. He worked a long stint as Director of the Center for Sustainability at the University of Kansas, and as an environmental educator before that.  His work takes him throughout the Midwest.

The Heartland Environmental Justice Center helps individuals, organizations, and institutions support underserved and disadvantaged communities in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and adjoining Indigenous nations capitalize on their capacity to make meaningful advances towards environmental and energy equity at the local, state, regional, and federal levels. The Center helps communities develop their ability to participate in environmental justice and energy justice decision-making, find and apply for grants, and engage with the private sector to be part of energy and infrastructure project design and development.

Jeff’s interest in the connections that exist between human and natural systems is reflected throughout his career as an informal educator and sustainability professional. His experience spans watershed education, waste reduction, energy conservation, multimodal transportation, landscape restoration, community wellness, food insecurity and diversity, equity and inclusion. He has coordinated strategic planning and project implementation to address a range of environmental and social challenges.   As Richard and Jeff discuss the Heartland Environmental Justice Center, their topics will be wide ranging – not only as to issue – energy, pollution, protection of our environment and the sustainability of our lives – but wide ranging with respect to geography.

We at EcoRadio KC are glad to encourage awareness and protection of our world.  Our goal is to ensure our listeners are aware of how we can create a sustainable present for a sustainable future!

This will be a great radio hour!
