WE WANT TO HEAR FROM OUR NEIGHBORS!

We bring you vital information underserved or ignored by mainstream media. We are supported by listeners who share our mission.

Today, host Richard Mabion and his co-host, Rich Gutowski, will speak with Jeffrey Severin, Sr. Program Manager for the Heartland Environmental Justice Center, which is part of the Environmental Finance Center at Wichita State University. The Heartland Environmental Justice Center is a thriving communities Technical Assistance Center that helps individuals, organizations, and institutions support underserved and disadvantaged communities in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and adjoining Indigenous nations.  Heartland Environmental Justice Center helps them capitalize on their capacity to make meaningful advances towards environmental and energy equity.

Jeffrey will tell us what’s been happening with Heartland Environmental Justice Center.  Jeffrey has brought a guest, Kathryn Persley, President of the Heart of the City Neighborhood Association, the Dunbar-Leeds neighborhood, who has contacted the Heartland Environmental Justice Center to inform them of the concerns of the neighborhood and to learn what can be done toward environmental and energy equity.  The Dunbar neighborhood is home to the Blue River and also home to the Ford Leeds plant, which historically caused contamination of the Blue River.  The Heart of the City Neighborhood Association feels a responsibility to the community.  Heart of the City Neighborhood Association is rooted in the belief that we all have an inherent responsibility to make a meaningful difference in our community. With a variety of active projects, trusted partners and volunteer staff, they have skills and resources to harness in order to successfully achieve their goals.

It is incredible how one small idea can grow into something truly special.

EcoRadio KC is glad to encourage awareness and protection of our world.  Our goal is to ensure our listeners are aware of how we can create a sustainable present for a sustainable future!

We support the work for a future in which humans flourish as members of a thriving ecosphere. We are all in this together and it will take all of us to make the world safe for human habitation for millennia to come.

This will be a great radio hour!

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can about the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”    Margaret Mead
