KKFI is proud to present “MidCoast Live!” celebrating local and regional artists from Kansas City and the surrounding area. Each week, a rotating crew of KKFI programmers will present different artists coming to you live from our studio. These programmers will tap into Kansas City’s diverse and culturally expansive music and arts scene. Hear from artists you have never heard of before! This is KKFI doing what it does best: giving back to the community!
MidCoast Live! with Michelle l. Hill is Friday, February 2, 2024, noon to 1pm, LIVE on 90.1fm KKFI. Hosted by Maria Vasquez Boyd welcomes Michell Hill Owner/Founder of The Black Sunflower.
Produced by The Black Sunflower, Rhythmic Clash brings together four unique and passionate bands who will light up the stage for this anticipated competition. Aster, Frankie Shorez and Mercy Fire, Legerdemain and Talking Backwards are coming prepared to show Kansas City the range of our local talent. Enjoy a jam-packed night of Rock, R&B, Classical, Indie Rock, Blues, Jazz, Funk, and Soul.
About the Bands:
Aster is a local post hardcore band based in Kansas City, MO. Aster started as a studio project that then blossomed into the killer line up we see now. Our debut show was opening for KC legends, The Browning! 2023 Aster has been traveling more, we are working with bigger music industry names for our second album. We can’t wait to show everyone what we have been working on!
Frankie Shorez presents Mercy Fire was created in 2022. She creates original written works and delivers a signature vibrato and stage presence that is all her own. The sound is haunting and soulfully vintage! Mercy is a group of talented multi-instrumentalists, with a background in Blues, Classical and R&B.
Legerdemain is a KC based band created and led by Marcus Rattler (Steel Pan, Drums, Vocals). The mission of the band is to expose more people to Steel Pan and its versatility through all genres, while groovin’ hard! They gravitate toward Funk/Jazz/Soul while still covering Classical, Latin, Calypso, and much more!! Legerdemain, in its fullest form, is a trio with charter member Daniel Yung on the Keys and newest member Imani Mason on Bass but is capable of masterclasses, solo, and duet performances as well!
Talking Backwards is an American Indie Rock Band based in KCMO. We have played at venues all around the KC area and abroad including recordBar, The Bottleneck, The Rino, and even Kansas Speedway for the American Royal BBQ Competition. We’ve released an EP, and a single titled ‘Kismet’ from our forthcoming album which we expect to release in early 2024.
